Distance Runners Recover Faster from Injury and Improve Performance!
When it comes to athletics, there are various forms of trauma that are at play. For distance runners, in particular, the trauma is repetitive in nature. As you can imagine, this repetitive physical stress adds up over time. Without preventative measures to mitigate these stressors, athletes will experience dysfunction, breakdown, and often injuries that end seasons or careers.
What we can learn from Olympic and professional athletes is that they always consider a wellness routine to keep their bodies and minds in peak condition. They don’t wait until they are sidelined with an injury to engage in preventative health care.
A Canadian study of 16 injured female distance runners showed that with regular chiropractic care, they recovered quicker, and almost half went on to achieve personal record times.
We submit that we all are athletes in our own right. Whether we are occupational, corporate, or family athletes, we all have to maintain a consistent level of exercise. We must take care of ourselves proactively if we are going to provide for those who depend on us.
